A few weeks ago, I signed up for this half marathon in Mérida, Mexico. But a few days ago, my family got sick—everyone except me. I needed to run. Then, two days ago, it hit me hard. I got so sick that I lost all my energy and threw up like never before. I could barely walk up and down our stairs, and I couldn’t eat anything. All my energy was gone. But I still wanted to run, even though everyone said it was impossible. Yes, I know. But I paid for it, and I’m not one to give up—And Jesus paid the price for me.
Yesterday, I still had almost no energy, but I felt a little better. In the evening, I was able to eat some food for the first time, even though it was hard to get it down. But I went for it, and this morning, I woke up at 3 AM because the run was at 5 AM. Yes, it’s still warm here in Mexico, which is why we run so early.
My first goal was just to finish because my stomach was still not good. My other goal was to finish in under two hours, if I could. Thank you, Jesus! It went well. I finished strong in 1 hour and 55 minutes with more to give.
I’m excited, and my next goal is to run a full marathon. This experience is also great spiritual training, as we learn a lot by not listening to our flesh but by focusing on the finish line, knowing that in this life, we also run for a crown that will never fade away—unlike the one I got today, which will one day fade away with everything else.
What a day!
