I Am Sorry, Church: A Personal Apology and a Call to Unite for Transformation — Torben Sondergaard

I Am Sorry, Church: A Personal Apology and a Call to Unite for Transformation — Torben Sondergaard

With this video, I want to apologize to the church and reach out to everyone in The Last Reformation network. We need to change and do things better.

For a long time, God has worked in my heart regarding the church. This began even before my time in jail, where He revealed to me that a shift was coming and that we needed to work more closely with the church.

For that to happen, something significant needed to change in my heart and my attitude toward the church, its pastors, and its leaders. That was exactly why God allowed me to go to jail. While there, God used different situations to truly break and humble me, and I received a prophetic word that I needed to be broken during this season to prepare for what was coming next. The person I was then was not enough for what God needed from me in the next season. I share more about that in the video below.

After jail, God sent us to Mexico, where we didn’t know many people, and few were aware of my past and my time in jail. This gave us a chance to live out the transformation that had happened in our hearts. We arrived with a new attitude and worked closely with local pastors and their churches, overcoming past hurt, frustration, and bitterness. The results have been amazing, and we’ve seen beautiful transformations in many churches and formed many new friendships.

Last weekend, I held my first public meeting in Europe in seven years, and it was my first public meeting after jail where I shared about this journey. In Mexico, I hadn’t shared my story because people there didn’t know me from before, and it was difficult for them to relate to a Danish guy who had been in jail in America. However, during this meeting last week in Norway, I finally shared my story and offered a public apology to the church for my past attitudes. This came from my heart and included a lot of crying; it was a humbling moment.

I expressed how difficult it has been to work with the church because of past hurts and how this bitter root has sadly been spread from me to others, which I also ask forgiveness for.

The feedback from this meeting in Norway, along with several pastor and leader meetings, was incredible. It led to many new relationships with pastors, leaders, and churches, bringing even more healing to us. I felt I needed to share this with all of you.

I encourage you to watch this video, where I provide a short introduction to what people will see.

Please take the time to watch this. I hope you receive my apologies.

Please share this video with your pastors and the churches out there. I also ask everyone in the TLR movement to watch this, and I seek forgiveness if I have brought any hurt or bitterness to you. May you also examine your hearts, and I pray this will not only be a new beginning for me but for the whole movement.

Let’s strive to do better and see a reformation in the body of Christ. To achieve that, we need to work together with pastors and leaders, not against them.

So, pastors and leaders, church, please forgive me, and I promise I will do better.

Thank you for your love and support. Thank you for listening to my message and for receiving my apology.
