To first century Jews, calling Jesus the “Son of David” meant they believed He was the promised King from David’s line and the true Messiah. He would bring justice, save His people, and reign forever. He began this at His first coming and will complete it at His return in the Kingdom to come. Calling Him “Son of David” is a true recognition of who He is and what He will do, and understanding the Davidic Covenant is a key to understanding who Jesus is.
