Stop praying for the harvest to come in. Instead, pray for the workers to be sent out!
We’ve looked at how the harvest is ready and plentiful as Jesus is saying. Yes, the harvest is not the problem. The problem is the workers – you and me.
The answer to this problem is prayer – not prayer for the harvest to come in, but prayer for the workers to be sent out.
Let’s read what Jesus is saying in Luke 10 verse 2:
He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Yes, we really need to start praying as He says here.
Many today, all over the world, are praying the Lord’s Prayer……
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name,
Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven…,“ from Matthew chapter 6. That’s good, but that’s not the only prayer Jesus commanded us to pray.
He also commanded us to pray this prayer in Luke 10:2. There are several interesting things about what Jesus is saying here in Luke 10:2. The first interesting thing is that the Bible translates one of Jesus’ words with “to send.” But, the Greek word ekballo could also mean “to drive out.” This word ekballo is the same word used when referring to driving out a demon. One of the first places in the Bible you see this word ekballo used is in Matthew 10 where Jesus commands us to drive out demons. Matthew 10:7-8 states:
As you go, proclaim this message: “The kingdom of heaven has come near.” Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out (ekballo) demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
Yes, I like this! Why? Because people don’t like to go. I don’t like to go. Therefore, we need to be driven out there!
